One door closes, another opens

I got to class early today, and didn't have anybody walking with me so I had to open the door. When I got to the door and pulled, it didn't open so I waited for someone else to get there because I figured it was locked because classed don't start until 9. However, on the way out of class I realized that the doors open inwards. I know from American history that most buildings are required to have doors open outwards, due to fire safety. Although I don't know the laws of Ireland, I am assuming they dont have the same when it comes to fire safety. Another thing that threw me off was that there was a switch to open the outermost door, which I would not think of in a fire emergency. I would think that maybe they are smarter than I am and there would be another way to get out in a hurry. But I guess these things are lived experiences and social norms in countries where they are from. Like how people push past in the stores, without saying "excuse me" or "sorry". To me this would be considered rude however here, it seems perfectly fine. Not quite sure what to link with my experiences besides the whole experience of being unexperienced. In Joyce's Araby, the author is a young child who is not quite sure what is going on but is still apart of it anyway, learning as he goes and seeing things arent as they ought to be. No images for today, I didn't think a door would be an interesting photo.
